FORT WORTH, TX -- The City of Fort Worth plans to close six
of its seven municipal swimming pools this summer because of a $45
million budget shortfall. City officials announced a plan with the YMCA
of Metropolitan Fort Worth to open pools at four Y locations for limited
public use, beginning on June 5.

Members and friends of Club H Fitness,
Hoboken, NJ, raised $13,548 for the American Cancer Society at the
annual Spin For Life event. More than 200 spinners participated in this
year’s event, which was held on May 23 in Hoboken, NJ. Club H Fitness
has held the event for the past six years and has raised more than
$100,000 for the American Cancer Society. |
The Rush Fitness Complex,
Knoxville, TN, is opening two new clubs today, one in Dalton, GA, and
the other in Winston-Salem, NC. The Rush, owned by Larry Gurney, now has
19 locations. The clubs offer free supervised kids clubs, personal
training, nutritional guidance, pro shops, juice bars and free guest
privilege programs. The Rush merges exercise and entertainment with a
rock-climbing wall and a Tornado Tube, a massive air-blast chamber
designed to cool off heated exercisers.
Members of the team at a Fitness Together,
Ponte Vedra, FL, recently appeared on the “Dr. Phil” show to reveal the
success of Erin Stehl’s three-month fitness and weight-loss program.
Wes Greer, franchise owner of three Fitness Together studios, and
personal trainer Lori Eboli, guided Stehl through four workouts a week
that helped her lose 25 pounds and 9 percent of her body fat. “We’re
promoting healthy weight loss with diet and exercise,” Greer said in a
statement. “Erin’s journey took time and serious dedication. But
there are millions of women out there like Erin who are still searching
for answers. We’re honored to show that Fitness Together can be part
of the solution.”
Fitness, San Ramon, CA, will be featured in the upcoming NBC TV
series “Losing It
With Jillian,” which premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The
series stars trainer Jillian Michaels, who also is featured on NBC’s
Loser.” 24 Hour provided families in the new series with one-year
memberships and complimentary personal training. Each participant also
received the bodybugg personal calorie management system.
Sport & Health, McLean,
VA, will hold a June 12 grand opening for its multi-million-dollar,
38,000-square-foot club at Brambleton Town Center in Ashburn, VA. The
new club features indoor and outdoor swimming pools and an open floor
plan for more than 100 pieces of cardio equipment. Other features
include a smoothie bar, a WiFi café, a basketball court, a kids club
and studios for group exercise, virtual cycling, yoga and

Boston Red Sox slugger Kevin Youkalis, will lead the class along with

A fitness center at Vandenberg
Air Force Base, CA, was recently named in honor of Navy Reserve
Cmdr. Duane Wolfe, who died in Iraq. Wolfe, 54, previously worked at
Vandenberg for 24 years and was deputy commander of the 30th Mission
Support Group at the time of his death. The 51,000-square-foot fitness
center was completed a year ago and cost $16 million.
To relieve stress during finals, students at the University of California-Riverside will
be treated to wellness and exercise therapies on Wednesday. Planned
activities include healthy exercise options at the student recreation
center and a Mental Health Day Spa. One unusual spa treatment will be
the appearance of several certified therapy dogs that will be available
for petting and play. Students who pet a pooch also will receive a
stress ball and bookmark featuring stress-relieving tips. A similar
program earlier this year drew 350 students to interact with the therapy

national program benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Cybex
donates 10 cents for each mile logged on its custom-made pink treadmills
during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is in October. The pink

inaugural campaign, Pink Ribbon Run was recognized as one of 2009’s
top cause-marketing initiatives, with exercisers logging more than
250,000 miles on the pink treadmills at more than 90 facilities in 38
states. Based on that success, for every pink treadmill purchased by a
repeat participant this year, a donation will be made for that
treadmill, as well as one purchased in 2009. |
