repairs to the facility are expected to be minimal.

vice president of franchise sales. In his new role, Hicks will be

last year, has a new name and a new president. Fuzion Investment
Capital, Charlotte, NC, the parent company of what is now called ZX
Fitness, has named Ron Poliseno as the club’s president to oversee the
day-to-day operations of the 12 ZX Fitness clubs in the
Carolinas.

GAITHERSBURG, MD -- Sport & Health Clubs acquired Clubgolf
Performance Center at its Rio location in Gaithersburg, MD. The
acquisition is part of Sport & Health’s multi-year campaign to grow
and improve its network of health and fitness clubs throughout the
Washington, DC, area.

RACINE, WI -- A state-of-the-art 70,000-square-foot YMCA will
be built in Racine, WI, thanks to a $6 million gift from Diversey Inc.,
a manufacturer of cleaning and hygiene products based there.

HANOVER, NH -- Dartmouth College has received $9 million to
support its recently renovated fitness center, according to the
college’s website. The gift came from an anonymous donor.

GRANVILLE, OH -- Denison University, an undergraduate liberal
arts college in Granville, OH, has broken ground on the renovation and
expansion of its athletics and recreation facilities. The project,
budgeted at $38.5 million, is expected to be completed by spring
2013.

The words “keynote speaker” seem a little odd when
followed by the name Richard Simmons. We didn’t know really what to
expect when we asked the fitness phenomenon to do us the honor today at
Club Industry 2010. But we all knew that he wasn’t going to get up on
stage in a suit and tie with a stack of index cards.

We thought since Bill Rancic is from Chicago and develops
real estate here, coming to speak at the Club Industry show would be a
piece of cake. Not so.

Life Time
Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, will open its first club in New York next
February in Syosset, NY. The 112,000-square-foot Life Time Athletic club
in Long Island will feature sports, recreation, fitness and spa programs
and services. “We are excited to bring our unique, family-oriented
health and wellness destination to the Syosset community of Long
Island,” Jeff Zwiefel, Life Time’s executive vice president of
operations, said in a statement.

Fitness, San Ramon, CA, now has a free My24 mobile app for Android
phones and devices. Android users can download the app to locate clubs,
review club amenities, look up class schedules and access a variety of
fitness tools.

Fitness, Irvine, CA, has opened a 42,000-square-foot club in the
Phoenix suburb of Laveen, AZ. The club is part of a four-corner complex
shared with several retailers.
The Rush Fitness Complex,
Knoxville, TN, held a grand opening on Oct. 1 for its newest club in
Dalton, GA, the company’s 21st club. The 30,000-square-foot club
includes a “Ring of Fire,” a six-station, octagon-shaped circuit
training center in which a group exercise trainer works out six people
at a time 15 feet off the main floor. The club also includes indoor
running bleachers.

Med-Fit Systems
Inc., Fallbrook, CA, manufacturer of Nautilus commercial products,
has added Bernie Zelhof and Wes Brown to its sales team. Zelhof, who has
worked with companies such as Cybex, Biodex and Body Masters in his more
than 40 years of service to the medical and fitness industries, will be
director of medical and key accounts. Brown, who joined the Nautilus
corporate office in 1991, is now the Southeast regional manager as well
as general sales agent for Med-Fit Systems. He previously served in
regional and national sales as Nautilus’ sales support director and
developed the Nautilus pre-owned division.
Cybex International Inc.,
Medway, MA, has partnered with Fabiano Designs and Colarossi
Consulting and Management to launch Hotel Cybex, a customizable,
high-end, pre-packaged fitness center created specifically for the
full-service and luxury hotel and hospitality markets. Complete details,
including brochures, prototype layouts and more, are available on the Hotel Cybex website.
Recently, Fabiano Designs announced a partnership to redesign
Anytime Fitness clubs.
