RetroFitness,
Colts Neck, NJ, is expanding beyond its Mid-Atlantic roots into four new
major metropolitan areas nationwide. Only five years after it first
offered franchising opportunities, the company says more than 100 clubs
are already in development in the Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and
Washington, DC, markets. It plans to bring that number up to 300 clubs
over the next three years.
Equinox, New York, is teaming
up with New York-based family lifestyle brand Citibabes to provide child care and
children’s classes at some of its clubs. Citibabes at Equinox will
offer educational and interactive programs for children aged 3 months to
9 years, allowing their parents time to work out.
YogaFit, Beverly Hills, CA,
will offer seven new workshops for yoga and fitness professionals
through its teacher training program in 2011. The workshops include
YogaFit Sweat (instruction in a warm studio), YogaFit Lean (designed for
weight loss), YogaFit Plus (for full-figured participants) and YogaFit
Back (for those with back problems). Other new training programs focus
on props, therapeutic benefits and breathing techniques.

Fitness Anywhere
Inc., San Francisco, makers of TRX Suspension Training, recently
named Ethan Sernoff its new senior vice president of marketing and
product. Sernoff previously held marketing positions with Nike and
Disney. “Ethan’s extensive experience in sports, brand and product
marketing will be invaluable to keeping Fitness Anywhere at the
forefront of the fitness industry and helping us to get to the next
level,” Fitness Anywhere CEO and Founder Randy Hetrick said in a
statement.
GlobalFit, Philadelphia, a
provider of corporate health and wellness programs to employers and
insurers nationwide, is partnering with Power Pilates to offer
reduced-rate access to its 110 affiliated studios. Employees can attend
sessions at the Pilates-dedicated studios on a pay-as-you-go basis at a
25 percent discount. GlobalFit says the partnership will benefit
employees who would like to improve their fitness but do not feel
comfortable in a traditional gym setting.
Endless Pools, Aston, PA,
is working with “The
Biggest Loser” TV show to provide this season’s contestants with
access to a custom-built pool that features adjustable-speed swimming
lanes and underwater treadmills. The company also partnered with the
popular NBC series, now in its 11th installment, during the show’s
second season.
