24 Hour Fitness, San Ramon, CA, will close its Active club in Cathedral City, CA, on June 30 as a result of an expired lease, the company said in a statement. All members of the club have been granted access to 24 Hour's 20,000-square-foot Indio Jackson Street Sport club at no additional charge. Also, all staff members at the Cathedral City club have been offered employment opportunities at the Indio club or any other 24 Hour club in the surrounding area, according to the company. The Cathedral City club has been in operation for more than 20 years and has more than 4,000 members.
Gold's Gym International (GGI), Irving, TX, is offering AAA members a special discount to Gold's Gym through AAA's Show Your Card & Save Program. AAA members can join Gold's Gym for $39 with no long-term contract required. Benefits include 20 percent off standard membership dues, 10 percent off in-store retail apparel and vitamins, up to 14 free travel passes to any Gold's Gym and a free subscription to Gold's Gym Extra, a monthly e-newsletter. "We are thrilled to partner with AAA and are excited to welcome its 52 million members into Gold's Gyms around the country," GGI President Jim Snow said in a statement.
Equinox, New York, is offering guests at Morgans Hotel Group Co. properties in New York City (Hudson, Royalton, Morgans and Mondrian SoHo) and Miami (Delano, Mondrian and Shore Club) access to Equinox clubs, including personal training and spa services. "We are very excited to be partnering with Morgans Hotel Group and excited to offer travelers our luxury services to help them get rejuvenated, stay fit and enhance their stay," Equinox Chief Marketing Officer Cie Nicholson said in a statement.
LA Fitness, Irvine, CA, is opening its newest club in the Tucson, AZ, Spectrum shopping center. A grand opening party at the 20,000-square-foot club is scheduled for June 11. This is the fourth LA Fitness club in Tucson.
Snap Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, was recognized with a 2011 Franchisees' Choice designation, presented by the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA). The award was presented on April 4 at the inaugural CFA national convention in Niagara Falls, Ontario. "We are thrilled to have achieved this designation, as it confirms our continued efforts to further strengthen our relationship with our franchisees," said Peter Taunton, CEO and founder of Snap Fitness, which has 65 clubs open in Canada.
Youfit, St. Petersburg, FL, which has 25 clubs in Florida, opened its first club in Arizona last month. Like the Youfit clubs in Florida, the new club in Glendale, AZ, offers a $10 per month membership, with no contract required. Youfit also recently opened a new club in Pompano Beach, FL.

Mad Dogg Athletics Inc., Venice, CA, has appointed Brad Thorp as its vice president of sales. Thorp, a veteran of the health and fitness industry, will monitor world sales strategies, revenue growth, expansions and existing markets.
Med-Fit Systems Inc., Fallbrook, CA, manufacturer of Nautilus commercial products, promoted Bruce Kaplan to sales director for the domestic dealer and direct sales team. Kaplan joined Med-Fit last November with more than 28 years of experience in sales and management at three fitness equipment manufacturers.
Paramount Fitness Corp., Los Angeles, has introduced the Paramount XFT-300 Extreme Functional Trainer for fitness training, sports-specific conditioning and rehabilitation. The Extreme has multiple ranges and movements with custom molded feet to provide stability. It also features swinging arms with adjustments, a pull-up bar and an exercise guide with 18 possible exercise movements. An optional accessory kit is available and includes a multipurpose sports handle, triceps rope, revolving curl bar and ankle strap.
