IHRSA Index Results Reflect Tough Economy
BOSTON -- Commercial health club financial performance struggled in
the first quarter of 2009 relative to the first quarter of 2008,
according to the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub
Association’s (IHRSA) 2009 First Quarter Index, which demonstrates the
financial performance of a sample of the for-profit health club
industry. The survey of 18 U.S. health and sports club companies
represents 530 facilities, an average of 29 clubs per company. Read the

Fitness Together Holdings Inc. has named Rob Duke director of
information technology. In his role, Duke will maintain and support the
corporate technology infrastructure of Fitness Together Franchise Corp.,
a one-on-one personal training franchise, and elements therapeutic
massage inc., a massage therapy franchise. In addition, Duke will
provide franchise support, assisting with technology-related questions
and issues.
A U.S. District Court judge in Massachusetts has denied Planet
Fitness’ motion to compel arbitration of a claim filed under the
Maryland Franchise Law, thus permitting Planet Fitness franchisee Diana
Hamilton Dutt, and her husband, Hans Dutt, to pursue their claim in the
Maryland court system. The
Dutts are suing Planet Fitness, Dover, NH, and Brick Bodies,
Cockeysville, MD, for violations of the Maryland Franchise Law.
VIDA Fitness has opened its third Washington, DC, location in the
Renaissance, Washington, DC, hotel. The 10,000-square-foot fitness
center includes a spa, featuring a European steam room, sauna and pools.
