Fuel Fitness Closes Chattanooga Facility
CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Manny Butera, who owns Fuel Fitness, closed one
of his Chattanooga locations last week. Fuel Fitness filed for Chapter
11 bankruptcy in December, but Butera had kept open all of his Tennessee
clubs until last week. He had already closed his Alabama, Colorado and

Eastern Lycoming Y Hits Building Speed
Bump
WILLIAMSPORT, PA -- The Eastern Lycoming YMCA in Williamsport, PA,
needs to raise about $1.5 million after bids for its new facility came
in more than $2 million above the architect's original estimate,
according to The Williamsport Sun-Gazette.
The original estimate for building the new YMCA facility was $6.5
million. The bids that were opened pushed that cost to about $8.4
million. Total cost of the new building is $11.2 million. The proposed
47,000-square-foot Y would include a fitness center, swimming pool,
gymnasium and running track.
The Sports Club Co. Revenue Increases 4 Percent
LOS ANGELES -- The Sports Club Co. Inc., Los Angeles, saw a 4.4
percent growth in fourth quarter 2005 revenue and a 4.6 percent revenue

NIRSA Teams with
ACSM
INDIANAPOLIS -- The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and
the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) recently
announced a partnership that will make ACSM certification programs more
accessible to NIRSA member institutions.
NIRSA and ACSM will work together to provide continuing education
programs, health and fitness certifications, and professional
development to NIRSA members. During the two-year agreement, key leaders
in collegiate recreation and fitness programs will have greater access
to National Commission for Certifying Agencies-accredited health and
fitness certifications as well as discounts on ACSM workshops and exams.

Foundation
Pledges $500 Million to Reverse Childhood Obesity
PRINCETON, NJ -- The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) will
commit at least $500 million during the next five years to tackle one of
the most urgent public health threats facing our nation: childhood
obesity. This is the largest commitment by any foundation to this issue.
The foundation's goal is to reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity in

Last month, Midtown Tennis Club held a Super Service charity
fundraiser that raised more than $19,000 for Tennis Opportunity Program,
a Chicago nonprofit that provides academic and tennis instruction to
disadvantaged youth. "Dual-Hand" Luke Jensen, tennis pro at the club,
challenged local media personalities, members and guests to matches.
Steven Schwartz, president and CEO of Midtown Tennis Club, served as
guest umpire during the event.
The Nashua Valley (MA) Council of the Boy Scouts of America will
give Timothy Richards, founder and owner of Lancaster-MA-based Orchard
Hills Athletic Club, its Distinguished Citizen Award for 2007. Richards
is also founder of the Boys & Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts.
The presentation will occur at a celebratory dinner in June. Proceeds
from the dinner will benefit thousands of Boy Scouts in 32 communities
throughout the region.
Mara Raskin, certified Pilates instructor and owner of Vital Pilates
Inc., Wilmington, DE, has joined Hockessin Athletic Club to establish
Delaware's only fully equipped, certified, STOTT Pilates studio.
Hockessin Athletic Club, a 110,000-square-foot facility, will open to
the public in mid June with a floor devoted to group exercise and
mind-body wellness. The club's Pilates studio will be staffed with local
hires who will be trained and certified as STOTT Pilates instructors and
who will offer private, semi-private and small group classes.
FitnessJobs.com and the Career Collection expanded their recruiting
job board services to include video resumes and job postings to enhance
the interviewing and selection process for both job seekers and
employers.
