Chapter 11 Filing
CHICAGO -- After months of speculation about a possible bankruptcy
filing, Bally Total Fitness Holding Corp. says it plans to file Chapter
11 restructuring. The company announced the plans yesterday after
holders of more than 80 percent of its 9.875 percent senior subordinated
notes agreed in principle to swap $150 million of the notes, which will
mature this year, for new subordinated notes, common equity and the
right to participate in a $77.5 million rights offering. Bally must get
consents from other bondholders before filing for Chapter 11. Read the

Minimum Wage
Increase Passes in Congress
WASHINGTON, DC -- Recently, Congress approved a bill that would
increase minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour. More than
half of the 50 states already have a minimum wage higher than the
current federal minimum wage, and seven states' minimum wage is higher
than $7.25, according to the Economic Policy Institute, a research

Employers Shift Focus to Prevention
CHICAGO -- U.S. employers are thinking differently about health
care, increasingly focusing on efforts to prevent employees from
becoming sick, according to a survey by the Midwest Business Group on
Health (MBGH). The group, which is a coalition of private and public
employers, presented the findings of its nationwide survey of more than

Discount Programs Encourage Participation
EAGAN, MN --- According to a study by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of
Minnesota, people who use fitness center discount programs are more
likely to live close to a fitness center (63.3 percent of those surveyed
live within two miles of a participating fitness center), and nearly
half of fitness discount users (43 percent surveyed) say they joined a
