Bally Begins Soliciting Approvals for Chapter 11
Plan
CHICAGO -- Bally Total Fitness announced Wednesday that it has
commenced the formal process of soliciting approvals for a prepackaged
Chapter 11 plan of reorganization from holders of the company's 10 1/2
percent senior notes due 2011 and the 9 7/8 senior subordinated notes
due 2007. The voting agent must receive votes on the reorganization plan
no later than 4 p.m. EDT on July 27, unless the deadline is extended.

Elements for
Women Expands in Atlanta Area
MIAMI BEACH, FL -- Miami-based Elements for Women is expanding
within the Atlanta area and has created a joint venture with Moda Spas,
the company announced. The three-year regional expansion plan includes a
total of six clubs for the Atlanta area.
One of the clubs will be a dual-concept multi-floor club. The
10,000-square-foot facility in Alpharetta, GA, will feature top spa and
fitness amenities, including a full-service hair salon, med spa,
anti-aging, massage and a full-service fitness center featuring
lifestyle consultants, group fitness and private exercise areas.

Ready to Take Des Moines Y to Court
DES MOINES, IA -- Nearly five years after a Des Moines lesbian
couple's YMCA family membership was revoked and a city human rights
commission ruled that the membership policy could be illegal, the issue
is back in the news. The couple recently picked up support from a Des
Moines city councilwoman who said the controversy could jeopardize a
$102,000 YMCA grant scheduled to be awarded next month, according to the

University Going Forward With Project
HUNTINGTON, WV -- After an unanimous vote by the Huntington (WV)
City Council to override the mayor's veto, Marshall University will move
forward on a $90 million construction project to build a new student

SYRACUSE, NY -- Syracuse University will have another fitness center
available to students when the fall semester begins in August. The
university is opening a 3,700-square-foot fitness center in the Marshall

SANTA RITA, GUAM -- The summer heat isn't slowing down sailors when
it comes to fitness. Sailors swam, ran and competed under the sun at
Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation's (MWR) Admiral's Cup Summer Sports
Day June 15 at Polaris Point, Guam. As a salute to deployed service
members in Iraq, members of the U.S. Transportation Command Joint
Intelligence Operations Center at Scott Air Force Base decided to run,
walk, swim, bike or rollerblade 6,681 miles, which is the distance from
their drill location at Scott Air Force Base to the heart of Baghdad,

Governor Signs Sales Tax Exemption Bill
TRENTON, NJ -- New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine signed a bill Thursday
that would exempt the initiation fees, membership fees and dues charged
by nonprofit health and fitness clubs from the state's 7 percent sales
tax. The sales tax exemptions will be retroactive to Oct. 1, 2006, and
the measure will create a system for consumers to receive a refund. Read

First State to Pass PCI Compliance Law
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota recently became the first state to turn a
core requirement of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security
Standard (DSS) into a law for all companies -- including fitness clubs
