Run Fitness Center in Rec Center
FORTUNA, CA -- David Grandy, the owner of the Body Works Fitness
Club in Fortuna, CA, is scheduled to open a new fitness center today
inside a 50,000-square-foot recreation center in Scotia, CA, according
to The Eureka (CA) Reporter. Grandy has signed a lease with The
Pacific Lumber Co. (PALCO), which closed the PALCO Recreation Center to
its employees in November because of financial difficulties stemming
from its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
The rec center had been open only to PALCO employees and Scotia
Elementary School students taking physical education classes. The
students will still be able to use the facility, which includes a
full-length basketball court, a weight room, two racquetball courts, a
swimming pool and locker rooms.

Arizona Breaks Ground on
Expansion Project
TUCSON, AZ -- The University of Arizona broke ground Monday on a
$27.5 million expansion project for its student recreation center. Major
construction is scheduled to begin in January and to be completed in May
2009.
According to the university, the 58,000-square-foot building will house
a fitness room, a multiple athletic court gymnasium, an outdoor
adventure area, and an exterior courtyard that will include sand
volleyball courts and rock-climbing facilities.

Casey Conrad, author and founder of the Healthy Inspirations
franchise and Take It Off Weight Loss in-club program, recently launched
a new Web site, www.AskMeHowToLoseWeight.com,
to help Americans fight obesity. Users can type any fitness question
they wish into the Web site and get it answered. Conrad will host a
teleseminar every two weeks featuring Dr. Kevin Steele, who specializes
in exercise physiology and nutrition, to answer users'
questions.
Fabiano Designs updated its Web site, www.fabianodesigns.com, in
November. The site has improved navigation, improved look and feel, and
several new features. The features allow users to view items such as
work by year or project type, and news and events.
The ECA/NYC OBOW Show will be held Feb. 7-10, 2008, at the Marriott
Marquis Hotel in New York. The conference focuses on programming and
will feature seminars about the latest trends and new concepts. The show
includes Pilates programming and headliners such as Kathy Corey, Ton
Voogt and Marci Clarke. Yoga programming is represented by Seane Corn,
Amy Ippoliti, Elena Brower and others. Fusion classes feature Mistykal
Trancefusion with Misty Tripoli, Yo-Step by Lawrence Biscontini and
Core Fusion by the program directors of EXHALE. Exercise science and
personal training will be covered by Juan Carlos Santana, Bob Esquerre,
Sue Hitzman and her M.E.L.T. method training, and more.
Washington Sports Clubs (WSC), which is owned and operated by New
York-based Town Sports International, announced the relocation of its
Bethesda, MD, club to a new 35,000-square-foot facility in that city.
The facility features state-of-the-art equipment with audiovisual
entertainment and amenities such as a four-lane swimming pool and a
dedicated personal training area.

The International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), a fitness
certification company, has teamed with Sportwall International, a
manufacturer of interactive fitness systems, to provide installation and
training on equipment for facilities at the local level. A select group
of ISSA certified fitness trainers will help the facility owners who
have purchased Sportwall equipment to both install the product as well
as train their staff to make the best use of the equipment.
Five new Anytime Fitness clubs in the Las Vegas area will be
equipped with the latest Nautilus
Inc. equipment. The equipment includes the Nautilus One or Nitro
Plus line of strength machines, free weights and cardiovascular training
equipment, including the Nautilus TreadClimber. Plans for grand openings
for the clubs, which are scheduled to open early next year, include an
appearance by Pro Football Hall of Famer Dick Butkus for a series of
events.
