Watchdog Pressures Ys to Ban Junk Food
NEW YORK -- The National Action Against Obesity (NAAO) launched a
year-long campaign to expel junk food from all U.S. day care, child care
and preschool centers, beginning with the nation's largest provider of
child care services, the YMCA of the USA. The group kicked off its
campaign in mid-April to coincide with the Y’s annual Healthy Kids Day
and specifically targets the Y’s partnership with PepsiCo. Read the

Elements added Bruce Fabel as its CEO and board-certified
internist and physician nutrition specialist Melina Jampolis to its
fitness advisory board. Fabel worked for Life Time Fitness in 2001,
Butterfly Life in 2003 and Diversified Health in 2007. Jampolis has
hosted the Discovery Network’s 10-episode FIT TV diet program, "Diet
Doctor." She has also appeared on television programs and been featured
in consumer magazines.

Nautilus Inc., Vancouver,
WA, closed the sale of its subsidiary DashAmerica Inc., dba Pearl iZumi,
the company announced today. Nautilus sold the apparel business to
Shimano American Corp., a division of cycling and fishing equipment
provider Shimano Inc. Consideration for the sale was $69.4 million,
comprised of $65.3 million in cash and the assumption of $4.1 million in
long-term debt. Proceeds from the sale will be used to pay down current
debt and fund future working capital needs, according to the
company.
Advantage Fitness Products
recently appointed Andrew Kane as its chief operating officer. Kane had
served as the vice chairman of merchant bank GCC. He also was the CEO of
HSBC Private Bank in Southern California from 2002 to 2006. Advantage
Fitness Products has expanded into the southeastern part of the United
States, with a new South Florida office and distribution center.
Denver-based Ohlson Lavoie
Collaborative (OLC) promoted Mahmoud Elmetwally to senior principal.
Elmetwally, who is based in Denver and temporarily assigned to OLC’s
Cairo, Egypt, office, has worked on numerous design projects for OLC,
including office buildings, resorts, athletic/fitness facilities and
housing. He was project manager for OLC’s work on the Summa Wellness
Institute in Hudson, OH, and is currently managing Summa Hospital’s
next wellness project in Kent, OH.
The Ab Coaster abdominal
exercise trainer received the Global Innovation Award at the FIBO 2008
international trade show for health and fitness. Industry leaders from
around the world, including experts in the area of product safety and
certification, journalism, health and sports science, selected the
recipient.
