Revenue Increases 6.5 Percent
LOS ANGELES -- The Sports Club Co. Inc. had a 6.5 percent increase
in revenue in the first quarter 2008, according to a statement from the
company. Revenues from operations for the first quarter of 2008 were
$16 million compared to $15 million for the first quarter last year.
Of the first quarter 2008 revenue, $10.8 million was from memberships
and $5.1 million was from products and services. The Sports Club Co.,
Los Angeles, operates and owns luxury sports and fitness complexes
nationwide under the brand name The Sports Club/LA.

$100,000 to Stay Open
ROANOKE, VA -- The Smith Mountain Lake YMCA in Roanoke, VA, is
scrambling to raise $100,000 to remain open. After learning months ago
that the siding on its recently constructed facility violated the terms
of a proffer tied to the mixed-use development, a Y official had asked
Franklin County's board of supervisors to amend the proffer, but the
board denied the request, forcing the Y to replace the siding, according

In Brief...
Montana Athletic Club (MAC) completed its recent re-model and
invited the public to tour the facility on April 30 in celebration of
its 15th birthday. MAC outfitted the facility with new furniture,
granite counters in the locker rooms, new tile in the pool areas and a
makeover at the service desk/juice bar, along with new carpet and paint.
New cardio and strength equipment also was installed. The club's used
equipment was donated to a local high school.

The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
accredited the National
Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA) Personal Fitness
Trainer Certification for a five-year period, expiring March 31, 2013.
NESTA received accreditation of the certification by submitting an
application demonstrating the program's compliance with the NCCA’s
Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. NCCA is the
accrediting body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance.
Nautilus Inc. has re-organized
into three stand-alone business units: direct, commercial and retail,
according to an announcement from the Vancouver, WA-based company. These
three business units and Nautilus International will now report to Tim
Joyce, senior vice president and general manager of Nautilus Inc. Joyce
will oversee daily operations of these groups.
Spinning Nation, an indoor
cycling fundraising event supported by Mad Dogg Athletics, will take
place on June 28 at official Spinning facilities across the country.
Registered riders have pledged to raise $250 to participate in four
consecutive one-hour classes. More than 150 facilities signed up to
participate during the first 10 days of registration. The event is
designated to accommodate up to 500 facilities.

SportsArt Fitness
recently launched the Healthy Homes campaign, which educates homeowners
on how to create a space at home that motivates them to regularly engage
in exercise and follow a healthy lifestyle. Phase one of the campaign
kicked off with a contest that asked SportsArt Fitness customers to
share their best SportsArt Fitness love story. SportsArt Fitness
received stories from people across the country who have used its
equipment to create a healthy living space for themselves and their
families. The feedback from these stories will help plan the remainder
of the campaign in 2008.
