Sales and Income Down in Second Quarter
MEDWAY, MA -- Cybex International Inc.’s second quarter net sales
and net income were down in the second quarter compared to the same
period last year. Net sales were $33.1 million, 4.6 percent lower than
the $34.7 million for the corresponding 2007 period. Net income was
$128,000 compared to $1.1 million for the corresponding 2007 period.

Anytime Fitness named John Kersh as its new director of
international development. From 1992 to 2004, Kersh served in the same
capacity for the International Health, Racquetball and Sportsclub
Association. He also is the founder and owner of Citrus Gym, a franchise
operation in Brazil. Kersh says he envisions Anytime Fitness expanding
into many parts of Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Snap Fitness recently announced its first international expansion as
the company will open two clubs in Bangalore and Mumbai, India. The
clubs will be owned and operated by Force Fitness India Pvt. Ltd., a
developer of fitness franchises in India. Snap Fitness also plans to
expand into other parts of Asia as well as Europe, the Middle East and
Latin America.
A Hudson, NH, man was arrested last month and charged with three
counts of simple assault after he was suspected of assaulting women at
fitness centers. Eric Henson is accused of approaching women and asking
them to teach him an exercise or massage technique, then grabbing and
putting their feet on his groin. Other women in New Hampshire and
Massachusetts have come forward with similar allegations, Windham, NH,
police say.
Bruno Pauletto, CEO and co-founder of Power Systems Inc., was
honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual conference of
the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) on July 11 in
Las Vegas. The NSCA recognized Pauletto for his contributions to the
strength and conditioning profession and his dedication to the
association. Pauletto has more than 25 years of service with the NSCA,
serving as a board member, state director and president, as well as
serving on various committees.
Dean Herried was named the new vice president of operations for the
YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, MI. Herried will be responsible for
leading the David D. Hunting Y and providing supervisory support for the
executive staff of the Gainey Family and Wolverine World Wide Y branches
in the Greater Grand Rapids, MI, area. Herried was most recently the
executive director of the Wolverine World Wide Family Y.
WTS International, a worldwide spa consulting and management firm,
partnered with Equestrian Services LLC, which provides planning, design
and management of equestrian facilities, to create Equi-Spa Lifestyle
Solutions, a program that combines an equestrian and spa environment to
provide wellness, personal awareness, relaxation, team building and
fitness benefits. Equestrian Services will provide the horses, facility
development, programming and staff/management for the equestrian
programs, while WTS will provide planning/design, pre-opening and daily
management services for the spa and fitness center.

Octane Fitness hired
Dave Zachry as a sales manager for commercial national accounts in the
western half of the United States. Zachry comes to Octane after four
years at Precor Inc. Prior to that, he worked for Fitness Products
International with the Icarian Fitness Equipment brand. In the late
1980s, he was an owner/operator of several Gold’s Gyms throughout
California.
The three-day Body
Training Systems (BTS) Summit, held May 29-31 in Portland, OR,
attracted more than 350 owners, managers and instructors. The BTS Summit
included the eight-hour Business of BTS Management Seminar and BTS
Intensive workshops. Attendance was 47 percent higher than the previous
Portland event held 18 months ago. The next BTS Summit is this month in
Hartford, CT.
CNN’s 2008 Fit Nation Tour features the eight-player XerDance
game and Sportwall Group Training
Stations. The purpose of the tour is to raise the profile of the
nation’s obesity epidemic and to get people informed and motivated to
make a difference on local, regional and national levels. The tour
visits major U.S. cities, including New Orleans, Dallas, Seattle,
Minneapolis and New York. CNN’s Fit Nation Tour began in 2006.
Andy Graham recently joined the team at ABC Financial. A veteran of the
equipment side of the industry, Graham was the eastern region sales
manager at FreeMotion Fitness and was one of the original members of the
FreeMotion sales team. Graham also spent more than seven years as the
southeast territory manager for Cybex International.
