LOS ANGELES -- The Sports Club Co., Los Angeles, had a 4.1 percent
increase in its second quarter revenue, according to a statement from
the company. The company’s second quarter 2008 revenue was $16.4
million compared to $15.7 million for the second quarter of last year.

Greater Grand Rapids Partners for Suits From Suits Campaign
GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids (MI) recently
completed its annual Suits From Suits campaign, which provided
youngsters ages 6 to 10 with, in some cases, their first-ever swimsuit.
The campaign raised more than 500 new and gently used swimsuits, along
with funds for water safety and swimming lessons for more than 280
children.
The Y partnered with the Paul Goebel Group, an insurance group in Grand
Rapids, MI, for the campaign. Suits From Suits is an annual event to
improve the quality of life for the greater Grand Rapids community.

Nautilus
Down $8.9 M, Focusing on Retail
VANCOUVER, WA -- Nautilus had a net loss of $8.9 million for the
second quarter of 2008 compared to net income of $1.1 million for the
second quarter of 2007, according to the company, which announced its
results in a recent conference. The company's re-organization efforts
and a refocus on retail are two of the main reasons for the optimism.

HELSINKI, FINLAND -- Amer Sports, the Finnish parent company of
Precor, had net sales of $441 million, a 14 percent decrease from the
same period last year, according to a release from the company. Net
sales for the fitness equipment division of the company decreased 17

In Brief...
Planet Fitness has announced several development deals that will
expand the brand throughout the country. Several franchisees and
investors are expected to launch 39 locations in Philadelphia County
(PA) and surrounding areas, 31 clubs in the Dallas, Plano, TX, and Fort
Worth, TX, markets, 26 clubs in four New Jersey counties, 13 clubs in
metropolitan Detroit, 12 clubs in upstate New York, and 11 locations in
North Carolina and South Carolina.
Austin, TX, police declared the drowning of a 4-year-old boy at a
Life Time Fitness outdoor swimming pool accidental, according to a
report by TV station News 8 Austin. Colin Holst died on June 14, the day
after Life Time staff pulled his body from the pool. The drowning death
was the first at a Life Time Fitness club in the state of Texas.
Elements, an upscale women-only franchise based in New York, has
hired Courtney Minor as its new business development director. Minor
previously was director of franchise development at Gold’s Gym
International, where she was responsible for recruiting franchisees,
managing franchise and area development agreements, and monitoring the
franchisee throughout the duration of the agreement for both domestic
and international franchising.
The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) introduced its
products and services locator, a new tool that replaces the ICAA
age-friendly fitness and wellness facility locator. The new service will
locate age-friendly fitness centers and programs, communities, health
stores and community services.

at the FIBO 2008 international trade show for health and fitness in
Germany.
FitRewards LLC hired Rachel
O’Holla as program consultant. O’Holla has a background in sales and
marketing specific to the health and fitness industry. She has served as
an operations and marketing manager at various health clubs throughout
the country. Her role within the fitRewards organization is to educate
the industry on benefits and performance of reward and loyalty programs
for both members and employees.
Body Training
Systems (BTS) signed agreements with The Alaska Club and MVP Sports
Clubs to partner in supplying branded group fitness programs, the
company recently announced. Both The Alaska Club and MVP Sports Clubs
have committed to running BTS’ full group fitness system and becoming
BTS Platinum Elite.
FD-Group, a design-build firm
that handles interior design and construction projects, has added four
new members to its senior management team. Bill Stewart was hired as
chief financial officer, Sharon Chapman recently joined the company as
construction manager, Jack Parlo was promoted to chief operating
officer, and Heather Moore was promoted to director of interior design.
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and Gerflor, the parent company
of Taraflex Sports Flooring, recently extended their exclusive four-year
agreement for an additional four years. The official partnership between
the FIVB and Gerflor began on Jan. 1, 2005 and will now continue through
Dec. 31, 2012. Under the agreement, Gerflor will be the official
supplier at the 2012 Olympics in London. Through the current agreement,
Gerflor is supplying 14 volleyball courts in seven locations for the
2008 Olympics this month in Beijing.
