AFAA Launches Bone Health Initiative
LOS ANGELES -- The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) is working with Swezey Institute of Santa Monica (CA), a bone health institution, to provide a new way to improve bone and joint health, according to the fitness certification association. As part of the initiative, AFAA will reach out to select locations, including clubs and health institutions, to promote bone and joint health.

In collaboration with the Swezey Institute, AFAA created a custom home-exercise DVD to complement the OsteoBall -- an inflatable vinyl ball for easy-to-do tension and resistance (isometric) exercises. An eight-week Swezey Institute study using the OsteoBall showed that users had an increase in muscle strength in their head, neck, hands, elbow flexors, quads, elbow extensors and trunk. The findings were published in the Journal of Rheumatology.
