Life Time’s Akradi Remains Confident After 2008 Earnings Call
CHANHASSEN, MN -- Life Time Fitness CEO Bahram Akradi, along with CFO Mike Robinson, spelled out their company's highs and lows during a year-end and fourth-quarter earnings call with analysts yesterday. New Jersey Family Sues Club for Not Using AED
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ -- The family of a New Jersey man who collapsed at a club and later died is suing HRC Management Inc., doing business as Hillsborough (NJ) Pool, Racquet & Fitness, for gross negligence after the club's staff did not administer an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the man. The lawsuit was filed last month in Superior Court in Somerset County, NJ. Read the full story.

Ohio Y Expands After Increase in Membership
LIMA, OH -- An expansion project that will result in an additional 2,000 square feet to the fitness center of the Lima (OH) Family YMCA began Monday. The expansion is the result of the Y’s membership growing by 1,000 people last year, according to the Lima News. Read the full story.

  • Boston Sports Clubs, a division of Town Sports International, announced the opening of its 26th location in the Greater Boston area. The 34,500-square-foot facility in Woburn, MA, features full-court basketball, a four-lane lap pool, three group exercise studios, locker rooms, a member lounge and babysitting, plus cardio and strength equipment.
  • BodyScapes personal training studios recently opened two new One2One BodyScapes locations in Mamaroneck, NY, and Katy, TX. These openings mark the company’s first locations in those states, and the company’s ninth and 10th national locations. Future expansion plans include 150 One2One BodyScapes locations nationwide in the next five years.

  • Tuesday's episode of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser Couples” featured Fitness Anywhere’s TRX Suspension Training equipment. Bob Harper, one of the show’s trainers, used the TRX outdoors, highlighting the portable qualities of the system. “Being a trainer on ‘The Biggest Loser,’ my workouts have to be effective and on the cutting edge,” Harper says. “Thanks to the TRX, I got some really great workouts with my contestants this season.”
