    2009 IHRSA Index Results Reflect Tough Economy
    BOSTON -- Commercial health club financial performance struggled in the first quarter of 2009 relative to the first quarter of 2008, according to the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association’s (IHRSA) 2009 First Quarter Index, which demonstrates the financial performance of a sample of the for-profit health club industry. The survey of 18 U.S. health and sports club companies represents 530 facilities, an average of 29 clubs per company. Read the full story.

  • A U.S. District Court judge in Massachusetts has denied Planet Fitness’ motion to compel arbitration of a claim filed under the Maryland Franchise Law, thus permitting Planet Fitness franchisee Diana Hamilton Dutt, and her husband, Hans Dutt, to pursue their claim in the Maryland court system. The Dutts are suing Planet Fitness, Dover, NH, and Brick Bodies, Cockeysville, MD, for violations of the Maryland Franchise Law.
