Life Time
Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, has elected Jack W. Eugster and John K.
Lloyd to its board of directors. Eugster served as chairman, president
and CEO of Musicland Corp., a retail music and home video company, from
1980 until his retirement in 2001. Lloyd has served as president of
Meridian Health, a $1.1 billion New Jersey-based integrated health
system, since 1997. Life Time will hold its third quarter earnings call
on Thursday.
The North Central Florida YMCA
secured a $200,000 line of credit to enable it to pay the employees it
was unable to pay earlier this month, according to The Gainesville
Sun. The organization received the line of credit loan from Sun
State Federal Credit Union.
An Air
Force recruiting video that claimed airmen are in better shape than
the Marines will be removed from the Internet following outcry from the
Marine Corps. Marines began forwarding the video via e-mail before it
reached the desk of Sgt. Major of the Marine Corps Carlton Kent, who
asked Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Roy to remove it last
Thursday.

Cybex introduced
its Bravo Functional Trainer, a training system suited for more than 300
exercises to enhance strength gains, movement coordination and core
integration. The trainer occupies a 6-foot-by-6-foot area and
incorporates two unique features—a progressive stabilization pad that
allows users to incrementally modify their stability and cable width
adjustment to let the height and width of the cables be adjusted so the
direction of resistance can be completely controlled.
Balanced Body has hired
Natalie Coughlin, Olympic swimmer and “Dancing With the Stars”
contestant, to be the official spokesperson for its Pilates Arc, a step
barrel. The Pilates Arc acts as a spine corrector, an exercise arc and a
wedge to use on a Reformer and provide back support and stability. The
Pilates Arc enhances workouts by providing several options to strengthen
and stretch a variety of muscle groups.

With all that was taking place at the Club Industry show this
year, I didn’t get a chance to attend as many sessions as I have in
the past. The three I attended last week were quite good, and they all
stressed the importance of planning ahead.

It’s always rewarding to see the winners of our Best of the
Best awards in person at Club Industry. My colleagues Pam Kufahl and
Stephanie Bloyd presented the plaques Friday to our six winners before
Mark Mastrov’s keynote address.
