Fitness, San Ramon, CA, held a grand opening last Friday for its new
club in Pearl City, HI. The amenities for the 46,000-square-foot Pearl
City Super Sport include a pro shop, sauna, indoor whirlpool, a circuit
training area and a kids club. The new club is 24 Hour’s eighth in
Oahu and ninth in the state of Hawaii.
Snap Fitness, Chanhassen,
MN, is listed in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s
“Fast 50.” Snap Fitness is among the fastest-growing private
companies in Minnesota, claiming a growth rate of 638 percent since 2006
and revenue of almost $32 million in 2008.
The American Council on
Exercise
announced a partnership with the YMCA of
the USA to enhance local YMCAs’ ability to serve health seekers
across the country through increased access to materials, resources,
certifications and continuing education credits. The YMCA and ACE will
work together to promote training opportunities and continuing education
programs to YMCA professionals through access to resource libraries and
content, as well as consultation efforts.
The International Health, Racquet
and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) released a new research report,
the “2009 Health Club Equipment Benchmarking Report.” Findings
indicate that many clubs will order the same amount of new equipment or
less in the next year. Forty-five percent said they will spend less, and
36 percent said they will remain at the same level for the period.
Additionally, 34 percent of the clubs indicated they plan to buy an
elliptical within the next year, with the average club planning to

Star Trac, Irvine,
CA, announced that Larry Domingo has joined the company as its senior
vice president of global sales. Domingo had been the vice president of
sales at Precor, where he helped grow the company by 300 percent during
his tenure there. “Star Trac is poised to have explosive growth over
the next five years,” Domingo said in a statement. “After spending
some time with the Star Trac team, I knew I had to be a part of their
emerging success story.”
Iron Grip Barbell Co.
released the newest version of its eWeight Planner facility planning
software. The Planner was updated to include the most current free
weight and plate-loaded lines from 13 commercial fitness equipment
manufacturers. The program is a free online tool to help customers plan
the proper amount of weight plates, bars, dumbbells and barbells for
their fitness facilities.
Concept2 recently introduced
the SkiErg. Similar to the Concept2 Indoor Rower, the SkiErg helps
athletes, specifically skiers, build strength and endurance in a
sport-specific motion. Every SkiErg includes a performance monitor that
gives skiers accurate, comparable feedback. This allows the user to
assess output, monitor progress and compare scores with others. The
SkiErg is available either as a wall-mounted unit or with an optional
floor stand.
Fitness Together
Franchise Corp. expanded its franchise development team to include
four new field sales directors who will support the company’s national
expansion campaign and manage franchise leads. Lance Freeman will
oversee franchise development efforts in the Western region, Michael
Hall will oversee 14 states in the Midwest, Don Carpenter was awarded
the Southeastern region and will oversee 15 states, and Scott Thompson,
Fitness Together studio owner and former area director, will oversee the
Northeast region, which includes 10 states.
