  • Barry Newton sold Newtone Health and Fitness, Lafayette, IN, after running the club for the past 22 years. Marc Vaughn has taken over ownership of the club. Newton will remain as a consultant to the business.
  • A man was sent to the hospital to treat several lacerations to his face after he tried to break up a fight outside JJ’s Fun and Recreation fitness club in Huntsville, AL, The Huntsville Times reported. The fight occurred late Sunday night between the man’s sister and another man, who allegedly pulled out a cutting tool. No charges have been filed in the case.

  • Fiserv, Brookfield, WI, has been named a preferred vendor of club management software and services by World Gym International, Los Angeles. Fiserv is now the exclusive provider of club management software, EFT and point-of-sale processing services as well as billing and membership management services for all of World Gym’s 200 locations. “Fiserv has the most extensive experience in our industry and understands our business and strategic goals,” Guy Cammilleri, managing director of World Gym International, said in a statement.
  • California State University Long Beach (CSULB) recently selected campus recreation software from ActiveCommunities to streamline operations at its new student recreation and wellness center, which is slated to open in the fall. CSULB is the ninth California State University to work with ActiveCommunities.
  • Jamba Juice, Emeryville, CA, is celebrating its 20th anniversary by offering special promotions and a new smoothie flavor. Jamba Juice started a buy one, get one free offer for customers to download coupons from its website until April 25. In addition, Jamba Juice launched a new smoothie in the All Fruit platform, the Five Fruit Frenzy smoothie, a blend of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, peaches and mangos.
  • Appointmentsearch.com has released its online appointment scheduling software. The program allows operators to schedule appointments anytime, anywhere from their company’s website. The application also sends automated appointment confirmation e-mails and reminders via text and e-mail.
