portfolio this month. The Irvine, CA-based company is holding a
ribbon-cutting ceremony today for its newest club in Stuart,
FL.

NEW YORK -- Equinox recently named Cynthia (Cie) Nicholson
its new executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- ACAC Fitness & Wellness Center is
adding a new club in Richmond, VA, its second facility in that city. The
club company also has one club in West Chester, PA, and four in
Charlottesville, VA, where the company is headquartered.

BRANDON, MS -- The sheriff of a county in Mississippi is
using seized drug money to renovate a fitness center for the
county.

BATAVIA, OH -- An Ohio club owner has been indicted on
multiple drug charges, including manufacturing and trafficking steroids
and marijuana.

CLACKAMAS, OR -- A club owner in Oregon who was accused of
sexually abusing an 18-year-old woman whom he invited to the club has
pleaded guilty to sexual harassment.

on the pole. After seeing the photo of the North Carolina dance studio
owner, I thought to myself, “That really looks kind of
dangerous.”

California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento State)
recently posted a video of its new rec center, The Well, which opened
Sept. 2. It gives you a really good picture of all that the facility has
to offer, especially the rock climbing wall, which is the
centerpiece.

Three
Fitness Factory clubs in Arizona have closed, according to a report
by Phoenix TV station ABC 15. The clubs had operated in Gilbert,
Chandler and Tolleson, AZ, for less than a year. An electric bill of
$27,000 for one of the clubs remains unpaid, and two of the clubs’
property managers say the clubs would have had to pay 50 percent of the
rent starting Sept. 1 after enjoying periods of free rent, according to
the report. The clubs’ owners are facing lawsuits involving two
Anytime Fitness clubs they owned in Las Vegas.
Club Fit, Briarcliff Manor, NY,
has named Bill Beck its president and Ellen Koelsch its vice president.
Owner Beth Beck, the mother of Bill Beck and Ellen Koelsch, will remain
active in the company, as will co-owner David Swope, founder and
chairman of Club Fit. Founded in 1973, Club Fit operates clubs in
Briarcliff Manor and Jefferson Valley, NY, and serves more than 10,000
members.

Med-Fit
Systems, Fallbrook, CA, donated fitness equipment to a New Orleans
high school that will be featured in the ESPN documentary “RISE
UP: New Orleans,” which will air at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday. McMain
High School was the first high school to open in New Orleans after
Hurricane Katrina. At ESPN’s request, Med-Fit Systems provided all the
strength equipment to the school’s athletic facility, including the
Nautilus Xpload plate-loaded line, Nautilus F3 free weights and racks,
dumbbells and weight plates. The documentary will be promoted tonight
during the Monday Night Football game between the New Orleans Saints and
the San Francisco 49ers.
GlobalFit, Philadelphia, a
provider of corporate health and wellness programs to employers and
insurers nationwide, has a new partnership with Anytime Fitness, Hastings, MN,
and its more than 1,300 clubs. “Anytime Fitness’ 24/7/365 model
gives our members even more options,” says Matthew Laffer,
GlobalFit’s vice president of sales. “Workers with schedules that
don’t fit into standard gym hours can now exercise when it’s
convenient for them.” Through GlobalFit, eligible employees can join
more than 12,000 participating fitness centers at reduced
rates.
