  • Town Sports International (TSI), New York, was honored with a Best Practice award for alignment with overall business strategy at the 12th Annual Corporate University Xchange Awards for Excellence and Innovation gala last month. The awards recognize corporate and government learning programs that improve employee and business performance. TSI has established a corporate university called Training Camp. "Our goal is to establish training and development programs that lead to career growth for our team members and business success for our company," says Chris Shaw, senior director of talent management at TSI.
  • Life Time Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, is opening a new club in Tulsa, OK, three years after initial plans for construction were made and then delayed because of the recession, according to the Tulsa World. The $18.5 million facility will be 93,500 square feet and will feature cycling, running, free weight, swimming and yoga areas similar to other Life Time facilities, as well as unspecified offerings unique to Tulsa. A spokeswoman for the company told the newspaper the club will be ready to open in 12 to 14 weeks.
  • A Bally Total Fitness in Glendale, AZ, closed June 9 after its lease expired and was not renewed, according to the Arizona Republic. A sign was posted on the doors instructing members to go 11 miles to the Phoenix location, which is accepting former Glendale members.
  • Snap Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, has made easyFIT, its personal wellness program, available to nonmembers. EasyFIT program users wear a small monitoring device that tracks activity intensity, duration and calorie burn, and then makes results and support tools available online. Since the program's launch six months ago, 20,000 monitors have been sold.

  • The Ab Coaster Co., Chester, NJ, announced last week that it is an official training partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL team has been using the Ab Coaster as part of its training regimen for the past four years.

  • Zoom Media & Marketing, New York, has announced a long-term agreement between ClubCom LLC, Zoom's network subsidiary, and Cardinal Fitness, Homer Glen, IL. Zoom, a fitness digital media company, will be operating a suite of digital and overhead signage and interactive personal entertainment for Cardinal Fitness.

  • ABC Financial, Little Rock, AR, is now offering its software and services in Canada. The company's software and payment processing products were immediately offered, and additional services will be available in the coming months, according to the company. ABC also has hired three new regional sales directors, Anita Hanke, Bill Manor, and Mary Parray, to cover the East, Central East and Midwest areas.
