  • The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act of 2011 was re-introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The PHIT Act would change current federal tax law to allow for the deduction or use of pre-tax dollars to cover expenses related to sports, fitness and other physical activities.
  • 24 Hour Fitness, San Ramon, CA, announced it will support Team USA athletes in the United States and abroad for the 2012 Olympics in London by outfitting a high-performance training facility specifically designed to accommodate the athletes' training needs. The company has served as the official fitness sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Team for five consecutive Olympic Games and the last two Paralympic Games.
  • LA Fitness, Irvine, CA, opened a new club in Sandy Springs, GA. The 50,000-square-foot facility features a multi-tiered indoor cycling room, a three-lane lap pool and 70 pieces of new cardio equipment with individual viewing screens.
  • Anytime Fitness , Hastings, MN, has opened a facility in Susteren, Netherlands, the first Anytime club to be operated out of the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg region. Facilities will open later this year in Gulpen and Landgraff, and as many as 150 new locations could be built in the area over the next 10 years.
