After a year of negotiations, In-Shape Health Clubs, Stockton, CA, acquired Spa Fitness Centers, Capitola, CA, last week, Paul Rothbard, CEO of In-Shape, told the Santa Cruz Sentinel. A purchase price was not disclosed. In-Shape plans to invest $2.5 million in renovations of the 40-year-old club, which has 7,000 members. In-Shape now has 45 clubs in California.
Town Sports International (TSI), New York, has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with American International Lifestyle's portfolio of companies, including Apogee Lifestyle, Apogee Wellness, Power Pilates, Pilates Pro and Beyond Barre. Under the agreement, TSI trainers will receive certification in Apogee's programs starting this fall, and the programs will be introduced in TSI's 159 clubs. Certification for independent trainers will be offered through training events.
Crunch, New York, will present two new programs at the IDEA World Fitness Convention in Los Angeles this week: LaBlast, a dance fitness class created by choreographer Louis Van Amstel, and the X-Pert Pole Fitness training program, which will provide participants with the training to teach pole fitness classes. The classes are available nationwide at Crunch locations.

The American Council on Exercise (ACE), San Diego, announced the promotion of Janet Frenkel from executive vice president of marketing and sales to chief operating officer. "We created the COO position to maximize Janet's expertise and talent, and fuel her ability to further grow the American Council on Exercise brand nationally," says Scott Goudeseune, the organization's CEO. Frenkel brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in behavioral economics and the fitness and health care industries to her new role.
FIT-traxx, Princeton, NJ, has partnered with New Paradigm Partners to expand the FIT-traxx small group personal training program to health clubs throughout the country. Created by John Bonica, the program includes a club launch kit with marketing tools and in-club and web-based training for personal trainers, sales staff and management.
