  • Powerhouse Gyms International, Farmington Hills, MI, is hosting a conference for its franchisees and licensees in conjunction with the Club Industry conference Oct. 12-14 in Chicago and Midwest Mania Oct. 14-16 in Chicago. Powerhouse will have a booth on the exhibit hall floor of the Club Industry 2011 conference, which is being held at McCormick Place Convention Center. The Powerhouse conference will begin at 8:30 a.m., Oct. 13, in room 190A/B at McCormick Place. Powerhouse licensees receive a 50 percent discount for all Club Industry conference sessions.   • 24 Hour Fitness, San Ramon, CA, is supporting Active Aging Week by hosting free workouts for anyone 50 or older during the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1. 24 Hour is a member of the International Council on Active Aging. The company also announced it is reopening a club in Hillsboro, OR, on Saturday after the completion of renovations.

  • iGo Figure Software's founder and CEO Kyle Zagrodzky will present "Secrets to 76 Referrals in 30 Minutes" at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the Club Industry conference in Chicago. Zagrodzky's experiences as an owner and operator of nine fitness clubs will serve as the foundation of the presentation, which focuses on helping club owners create a steady stream of quality prospects. He will share his seven secrets for generating a consistent flow of prospects and referrals from members, including the one that has never been beaten in the health club industry. Zagrodzky also will participate in the Ask the Experts session at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 14.
  • SportsArt Fitness, Woodinville, WA, recently provided new exercise equipment to Ingraham High School in Seattle as part of the "Rise Up" TV series created by ESPN that tells the story of four communities coming together to renovate their local high school athletic facilities during tough times. Each one-hour show focuses on the rebuilding of an under-privileged high school's athletic facility. This episode aired Tuesday, but it can be viewed by going to ESPN's website. The Ingraham facility had never been renovated in its 51 years.
  • Lucille Roberts Women's Fitness, New York, has selected Engage121 Enterprise Edition from Norwalk, CT-based Engage 121 Inc. to manage social media across its network of fitness centers. Each of Lucille Roberts' 45 fitness centers has its own Facebook page. Engage 121 gives the company a way to monitor member sentiment for all its gyms and to answer questions across the system, says Linda Leseman, head of social media for Lucille Roberts. Enterprise Edition enables content, such as fitness tips, promotions and in-center events, to be communicated across an organization in a way that protects the brand yet allows a company to establish a personal relationship with its local communities and customers, says Jon Victor, CEO of Engage121.
  • Iron Grip's premium urethane Olympic weight plates, urethane dumbbells and Olympic bars are featured again in NBC's "The Biggest Loser" this season. As a sponsor of the show, Iron Grip has provided its equipment free of charge. "We've been a part of 'The Biggest Loser' for nearly every season since its inception," says Michael Rojas, president of Iron Grip Barbell Co. Rojas claims that the equipment is the most durable equipment on the market and is the only line of free weights that is made exclusively in the United States.
  • Med-Fit Systems Inc., the Fallbrook, CA-based manufacturer of Nautilus commercial products, is sponsoring a six-week, foundational fitness webinar series hosted by Dr. Wayne Westcott. The series, which allows personal trainers to earn CEUs in an interactive environment, will include a 75-minute webinar session for six consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 25. Topics covered will range from principles for safe and successful strength training to protocols for high-intensity strength training. Westcott is the author of more than 20 books on strength training and has been a strength consultant for 11 organizations, including the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, YMCAs, and the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
