  • Life Time Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, announced it will officially open its first Canadian club on March 9. Two days prior, the club in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, Ontario, will open its doors for a VIP community preview and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The company also announced that it will hold a grand reopening next Monday for its North Meridian club in Indianapolis. Life Time recently reported more than $1 billion in 2011 revenue.
  • A former club owner in Lincoln, NE, faces a theft charge for selling memberships while allegedly knowing his club was about to close, according to local media reports. David Meisinger had operated New Image Fitness before it closed on Dec. 12, but police say his staff was selling memberships until the day before the club closed. Meisinger also faces a fraud charge, accused of falsely reporting burglary losses to police and his insurance company, according to reports.
  • YogaWorks will offer a special fundraising class, Stand Together, to benefit the yoga activist organization Off the Mat, Into the World and its Empowered Youth Initiative at the upcoming Tadasana Festival from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on April 21 in Santa Monica, CA. Off the Mat, Into the World mobilizes yogis and activists to use the power of yoga to drive conscious, sustainable action and ignite grassroots social change. The Empowered Youth Initiative is Off the Mat's commitment to serving youth in the United States.

  • Cybex International, Medway, MA, is outfitting the Allegheny Sports Medicine mobile fitness and therapy centers used by golfers on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour in 2012. The centers are outfitted with Arc Trainers, treadmills, exercise bikes, Bravo functional trainers and adjustable benches, all from Cybex. The mobile centers are staffed with professional therapists, chiropractors and athletic trainers who assist the golfers with rehabilitative and preventive care as well as personal conditioning programs. "The world's best players increasingly look to enhance their performance on the course through better fitness off it," golf legend and Cybex spokesperson Greg Norman said in a statement. "Cybex equipment allows these players to exercise at higher levels of intensity without fear of injury or overuse."
  • Octane Fitness LLC, Brooklyn Park, MN, has promoted Dan Kennedy to director of commercial direct sales and added Kurt Parker as commercial national accounts manager for the Southeast region. An Octane Fitness veteran since 2006, Kennedy most recently was national accounts manager and formerly was the East Coast regional sales manager. In his new role, he leads sales, service and distribution in the United States and Canada for all commercial key accounts through direct sales. Kennedy also manages all seven national account representatives within the North American territory, including Parker, who will manage national accounts in 12 states. Parker spent 12 of his 28 years in the fitness industry with Cybex International, Medway, MA. At Cybex, he was the director of strategic accounts, director of national accounts, director of North American sales and territory manager. He also served as the director of strategic accounts at Star Trac, Irvine, CA.
