Les Mills International, Auckland, New Zealand, is unveiling its new barbell weights system called Les Mills Smartbar this week at the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association Show in Los Angeles. The system will officially launch at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Les Mills booth (2310). The Smartbar has an ergonomic design and uses a "gator" fastening mechanism with retractable teeth for weight transitions. "The barbell weights system hasn't changed much at all for decades," Vaughan Schwass, CEO of Les Mills Enterprises at Les Mills International, said in a statement. "Our research shows that most people found fastening and changing weight plates during exercise pretty slow and cumbersome, so we've kept user-testing at the front of our design process and have completely reinvented traditional barbell design."

Not only has the system measured 25 million burned calories, but Mike Leveque, former president of Star Trac and now COO at CFM (the global distributor for MyZone), says it also has measured 38,000 individual workout sessions, 3 million minutes of exercise and 6 million effort points.
