Merritt Athletic Clubs, Baltimore, has announced the launching of its new service, Merritt Club Management. The company hopes to expand to other businesses and provide them with integrated managed solutions. Lisa Roulette will be the director of business development for Merritt Club Management.
The Fort Collins (CO) Club fitness center has been a refuge to those affected by the fires in northern Colorado in recent days. The Fort Collins Club fitness center opened its shower facilities and offered free Zumba classes for those affected by the High Park fire. Residents have been seeking shelter in churches and camps.
Plus One Health Management Inc., New York, and Irvine Company Office Properties have combined to create a new luxury health club in Southern California. Broadway Athletic and Swim Club is set to open this month in San Diego, CA. The club offers cardio equipment and is incorporating group exercise classes both inside and outside of the facility. It also will have an outdoor three-lane pool.
The manager at a Vida Fitness club in Washington, DC, used a unique method to catch a thief at his health club. After members' wallets were stolen in the gym, the manager put up signs warning that surveillance cameras had been put into place. Chris Kopp, manager of the Vida Fitness club, decided to take it one step further, according to numerous media reports. Kopp placed flour inside of some of the lockers so that it would spill on anyone opening the lockers. A man did break into one of those lockers and was covered with flour. The club has a photocopy of the man, who they suspect is the thief. They say they will ensure he is not allowed back inside the club.
Koko FitClub in Coral Springs, FL, offers a new type of workout program for people with disabilities. It is a program called a Smartrainer, which can help people perform more than 100 exercises. The club is calling it the world's first automated personal training studio and says the Smartrainer makes it more accessible for people with disabilities. Club staff also are available to help people with disabilities.
Atwood Consulting Group, a health consulting firm, has announced that Bobby Verdon will be joining the staff as a senior partner. The firm, which focuses primarily on gyms and health clubs, is looking to expand even further to nonprofit fitness centers with the help of the new senior partner. "Bobby Verdon will bring strong management skills to the firm while also being a high performer on the business development side," John Atwood, managing partner, said in a statement. |

ABC Financial, Little Rock, AR, teamed with Anytime Fitness on the show "Secret Millionaire." The show aired on June 10 on ABC with the co-founders of Anytime Fitness giving away a franchise to locals in the Oklahoma City area. ABC Financial, as well as other companies, helped sponsor the new facility and will offer software and provide a free year of payment processing service to the club.
Members of the community in Chelmsford, MA, will have the opportunity to test TRX Suspension Training equipment. Best Fitness will hold an event on Saturday that will contribute to the Wounded Warrior Project and give back to military men and women, according to the Lowell (MA) Sun. TRX Suspension Training, created by Navy Seals, has a range of exercises from mobility and endurance to balance and flexibility.
CrossCore Training and Education Programs are now available directly to the military. CrossCore RBT is a bodyweight training program that allows users to integrate natural and rotational movement while performing specific exercises without causing injuries.
Octane Fitness LLC, Brooklyn Park, MN, has been named one of the Best 100 Companies to Work For by Minnesota Business magazine, Octane Fitness announced. This is the first year for the awards, which recognize small, mid-sized and large businesses in the state of Minnesota. Winning companies were honored for leadership, benefits, work environment, innovative training programs and most satisfied employees. Octane Fitness has 52 employees in Brooklyn Park and international offices in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, plus an international subsidiary in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The awards were presented at a banquet on June 4 in Minneapolis.
The Ab Coaster Co., Chester, NJ, has donated an additional $10,000 from its Coast for the Quest campaign to Augie's Quest. Ab Coaster raised the money through the sale of its limited edition Augie's Quest Ab Coaster. For every Ab Coaster sold, the company is donating $100. The $10,000 now raises the company's contribution to Augie's Quest to $20,000. Augie's Quest is the Muscular Dystrophy Association's ALS research initiative that was founded by Augie Nieto, founder of Life Fitness, after he was diagnosed with ALS. |
