Officials at the Mount Desert Island YMCA in Bar Harbor, ME, are in the early stages of planning an expansion that would add a warm water pool to the facility. "Our regular pool has a temperature required for more competitive swimming. Older people don't like it; younger people don't like it. It's really only pretty good if you're a really serious lap swimmer," stated Dean Read, board president.
Over the next five years, the Putnam Rotary in Putnam, CT, will distribute $15,000 to the Regional Community YMCA in Putnam, money that it granted to the Y. The money will go toward construction costs to help the facility expand. |

Star Trac, Irvine, CA, announced that Kevin Farley has returned to the company as director of vertical markets and dealer sales. Farley, who previously worked at Star Trac for 14 years, left in 2010 to pursue his own consulting business. "The company helped me to grow a lot of longstanding relationships," Farley said in a statement. "I have kept most of those relationships intact for the past two years. I've known most of the leadership at Star Trac for more than a decade. It kind of felt like coming home."
Cybex International Inc., Medway, MA, has hired Kenneth Kuperstein as its director of marketing, planning and development. Kuperstein brings more than 20 years of experience in the advertising and marketing industries to the company. Kuperstein will assist with global marketing efforts and contribute to Cybex’s growth by developing brand strategy, consumer marketing, advertising development, business partnerships, media strategy and retail promotions. He will report to Lisa Juris, vice president of marketing.
Power Plate North America has launched its first comprehensive online video portal, powerTV, which includes workouts, exercises, education, testimonials and more. Designed to give Power Plate users and trainers access to official videos and information from Power Plate, powerTV debuted at the IDEA World Fitness Convention in July. PowerTV is accessible from any Internet-connected device, allowing users to view it while on the go or at the gym. New content will be added frequently, including a new full-length workout and a new training tip every week. All of the content is searchable.
SKLZ, a provider of sport and performance training products, is searching for its next brand ambassador. SKLZ and its partner Athletes’ Performance (AP), which provides integrated performance training for elite-level athletes, are giving one trainer the opportunity to join the ranks of SKLZ brand ambassadors like Albert Pujols and LaMichael James. Certified trainers are invited to videotape and share their unique exercises using SKLZ athletic performance products. The new ambassador will exemplify the SKLZ and AP training ethic, energy and performance knowledge, and will specifically represent the recently unveiled Trainers' Toolbox program. The winner will receive comprehensive training at AP’s Phoenix facility and will film a full training series as a SKLZ presenter with the video instruction being available on SKLZ.com and online video sites. Submissions are being accepted online and are due by Sept. 1. |
