    Non-Residential Construction Projects in Jeopardy
The credit market meltdown and crumbling economy have caught up to the non-residential construction market, says Ken Simonson, chief economist, Associated General Contractors of America, Arlington, Va. "Non-residential construction is on the verge of a potentially long slide," Simonson warns. His comments followed reports from the Census Bureau on construction spending in September and the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), Washington, D.C., on third-quarter and expected activity.

The new committee will establish bulletins and standards for design and installation of residential systems. Its first project will be revising the ANSI/CEA-2030 Multi-Room Audio Cabling Standard, which provides a detailed blueprint for adding multi-room distributed audio to homes as well as graphics and charts with suggested setups. The group will also work on CEA/CEDIA Home Theater Recommended Practice: Audio Design. The first R10 call will be held in early December.

CH2M HILL Selected by DOE to Promote Solar Energy Adoption in Select Cities
CH2M HILL, Englewood, Colo., has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to help 25 American cities accelerate the adoption of solar energy. The contract is part of The Solar America Initiative, a DOE effort to make solar electricity from photovoltaics (PV) cost competitive with conventional forms of electricity from the utility grid by 2015. Under the three-year, $5.5 million contract, CH2M HILL's IT Consulting and Spatial Information Management practices will work alongside the DOE and officials from 25 cities taking part in the DOE's Solar America Cities program, to eliminate market barriers to adoption and debut new solar solutions.

HomeGrid Forum and CABA Unite to Promote ITU Network Standard
The Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA), Ottawa, and HomeGrid Forum, Beaverton, Ore., recently signed an agreement that reinforces the growing industry support for G.hn — Geneva-based International Telecommunication Union's next generation networking standard — which promises to dramatically simplify connecting intelligent devices throughout the home. The liaison agreement between CABA and HomeGrid will enable the organizations to cooperate on the promotion and delivery of next-generation home networking applications through joint marketing, compliance and interoperability testing and research sharing, and collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies.
