Mackie's new dXb*200 digital production console is now shipping to authorized U.S. dealers. The first of these dealers - RSPE in North Hollywood and West L.A. Music in Santa Monica and Universal City - received dXb*200 consoles in early July, with more than 50 dealers targeted for later this month. MORE Tascam US-2400, FW-1884 Software Updates Tascam has released new updates for the US-2400 and FW-1884, which extend support for Steinberg applications and allow users to map FW-1884 surface controls to software applications via new virtual MIDI ports. The new firmware for the US-2400 is supported by Steinberg Cubase 2.2 and Nuendo 2.2. Additionally, those Steinberg versions support the FE-8 extender for the FW-1884 via Mackie Control emulation. MORE SLS PRD-LCR Speaker System SLS Loudspeakers recently introduced the PRD-LCR In-Wall Speaker System, which is designed for use as both a left, center and right position speaker when installed vertically or as a dedicated center channel when installed horizontally. The new library has been produced at 24-bit resolution and recorded in the Vienna Symphonic Library's custom-built Silent Stage in Vienna. PROJECTS 'The Lord of the Rings' Returns to Studio Network Solutions After aiding workflow during the recording, editing and mixing of Howard Shore's music score for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, associate music producer Mark Willsher again turned to Studio Network Solutions while creating the score for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. MORE 'Soul Plane' Flies with AKG Production crew for MGM's latest movie release, Soul Plane, selected AKG headphones, studio microphones and headset microphones to be used by the crew and passengers throughout the film. Soul Plane's team of behind-the-scenes talent included music supervisor Melodee Sutton, with music by The RZA. MORE Big Star Reunites at Ardent Power pop legends Big Star reunited at Ardent Studios in Memphis to record their first album in 30 years. The group is co-producing the new Rykodisc album with Jeff Powell. MORE The Donnas Return to the Studio Spirited punk/rock group The Donnas have begun work on the follow-up to their 2002 Atlantic debut, Spend the Night, at Conway Studio in L.A. with Atlanta-based producer/recording artist Butch Walker. Saul Zonana Taps Adrian Belew to Produce New Album New York-based singer/songwriter Saul Zonana is currently recording his next release with noted songwriter/musician/producer Adrian Belew, best known for his work with King Crimson, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Primus and the Talking Heads, among others. Zonana has produced and recorded his last two releases at his own studio, which now comprises the entire first floor of his New York home.
