Twenty-five years of format evolution! Twenty-five years of technological strides! Twenty-five years of great recordings! Oh, and did we mention 25 years of Mix?! MORE Tips and Techniques from Inside Mix Sound designer Gary Rydstrom on sound effects editing on the Steven Spielberg/Tom Cruise latest film, Minority Report: "One of my favorites is when the images freeze, as if the sound is caught in this loop and pulsing. I would jog to a crawl and the jog system would have this speed-up slow-down, speed-up slow-down, speed-up slow-down pattern to it. You get these eerie little sounds that you can place on these images." MORE FOH engineer Terry Pearson on mixing for Alanis Morisette's live act: "Alanis writes all of her lyrics, and I think people come to the show to hear those lyrics, so I try to mix so that [the lyrics] are on top and out front and intelligible. However, she doesn't sing very loudly, and because of that, her vocal mic [Audix VX10] has a lot of gain, and she moves all over the stage, so you pick up stage volume through the vocal mic, which is the biggest challenge in mixing the show."
