Cakewalk SONAR 7
Launched today, just two weeks before AES,
Cakewalk's SONAR 7 digital recording/editing/sequencing/mixing/creation
software for the PC is packed with new features, such as enhanced MIDI
editing with functions for splitting/gluing/muting notes, MIDI
Magnifier, MIDI Colorizer and MIDI Meters. Offering advanced DSP for
critical applications are internal sidechaining for a variety of
plug-ins and the advanced LP-64 EQ and LP-64 multiband linear-phase
mastering effects. Additionally, an external hardware effects insert
with automatic plug-in delay compensation and automated +/-24dB
send/return gain trim simplifies interfacing with outboard gear. Among
its other extras are the Z3TA+ waveshaping synth, Dimension LE
(featuring Garritan Pocket Orchestra), Rapture LE, DropZone and Roland
V-Vocal™ 1.5, now with pitch-to-MIDI conversion. For the final

Allen Sides, owner of Ocean Way Studios, and the topic will be
"Recording Mary J. Blige: High-Bandwidth Tracking Powered Through
Multi-Core Computing." Sides recently had a history-making recording
date with Mary J. Blige performing with a full orchestra. Allen viewed
this session as the perfect opportunity to see if SONAR lived up to
everything he had been hearing about it, and decided to use it as a
shoot-out between SONAR and his standard two Pro Tools rigs linked

48-track session recorded at 24-bit/192kHz using one Intel-based
