Recording Mary J. Blige: High-Bandwidth Tracking Powered Through
Multi-Core Computing
Sunday Oct 7th, 5:00 pm
Javits Room 1E04
Allen Sides recently had a history-making recording date with Mary J.
Blige performing with a full orchestra. Allen viewed this session as the
perfect opportunity to see if SONAR matched with Intel quad core
processors lived up to the power he had been hearing about. Sides
decided to do a shoot-out between SONAR and the "industry standard" rig
he normally uses for a session of this magnitude, which requires two
separate DAWs linked together. Everyone in the studio was blown away to
see SONAR simultaneously recording the entire 48-track session at
24-bit/192kHz on one Intel-based PCAudioLabs dual quad-core machine.
Allen will be interviewed about the recording session, followed by a
brief Q&A.

on the classic API 1604 -- a workhorse for more than 30 years -- and
adds new options to serve modern recording practices. Sharing the form
factor and revered 2520 circuitry of the 1604, the standard 1608 has 16
548B inputs (312 mic pre/line inputs and direct output), eight effect
returns, 12 550A 3-band equalizers, four 560 10-band graphic equalizers,
5.1 monitoring and space for eight additional 500 Series modules. AES

Real Sound CONEQ APEC-2PRO Acoustic Power EQ Provides two
channels of CONEQ™ high-resolution, EQ-correction based on
acoustic power frequency response. Unlike conventional SPL
frequency-response techniques, CONEQ enables inverse FIR filter
corrections to be applied with repeatable success. Following the
measurement process, which takes about two minutes, CONEQ synthesizes a
4,096-point inverse filter that precisely corrects the loudspeaker's
frequency response to a flat target response or to a specific
"personality profile" that can be anything the user requires. SRP:
$2,999. AES Booth #669, Room 3D07. www.realsoundlab.com
Primacoustic Recoil Stabilizer The Primacoustic Recoil
Stabilizer™ is a floating nearfield monitor platform that
eliminates disruptive resonant coupling from the loudspeaker to the
stand, while reducing the recoil caused by the forward energy of the
loudspeaker motion. By reducing this backward recoil energy as the
speaker coil pushes energy forward, initial waveform transients no
longer suffer lag and the sharpness of the resulting pulse is more
defined. The result is said to offer greater detail at all frequencies,
tighter bottom-end and improved depth of field. Its offered in various
sizes/weights to address different speaker designs and may be ordered in
both standard and custom angles to aim the loudspeakers for critical
listening. Retail: $99/each. AES booth #729. www.primacoustic.com
Digidesign VENUE Updates Available for both D-show and
