NEWSFLASH
Meadows to lecture at SAE
On March 1, 2002, at the opening ceremony of SAE’s Miami school, SAE founder and owner Tom Misner announced that noted mastering engineer Glenn Meadows will be a guest lecturer at SAE schools, as well as collaborate with Misner to start (or acquire) a mastering service in Nashville. For complete coverage, check out "Coast to Coast" in next month’s Mix.

WARNING: SCAM ALERT!
An individual in Indonesia has recently been contacting high-end audio dealers and manufacturers, trying to buy expensive music and audio gear direct, under the guise that there is no local dealer/supplier. In this case, communications with the seller have always been through Yahoo or other free e-mail service, and a fraudulent, stolen or fake credit card number is used. Certainly, there are legitimate overseas customers who may have trouble obtaining gear, but use extreme caution and common sense when dealing with such transaction.

George Petersen's Recording Tip
Every control room needs a Studio Book. Mine is a 3-ring binder of clear, plastic page inserts stuffed with essential information, listing patchbay routings, printouts of synth/sampler/effects processor presets, listings of CD effects library/production music library tracks, drum machine MIDI note assignments, a chart of piano-scale-to-MIDI-note numbers, phone numbers for important contacts (local suppliers/regular session players/repair techs/FedEx/UPS/piano tuners/rental/cartage/etc.) and a back section with menus of local eateries. Developing your Studio Book is a small investment that pays off big time!

In The Field
The 44th Annual Grammy Awards was not just about showcasing this year’s hottest acts. Over 350 Audio-Technica mics were in use at the event (you couldn’t miss the logo!), with numerous acts and presenters using A-T’s wireless handhelds, including Destiny’s Child, Pat Monahan of Train, Billy Joel, Patti LaBelle and many others. Also visible was a mysterious Sennheiser/Neumann hybrid wireless mic (used by Tony Bennett), which will be formally introduced and named at AES 2002 in Munich. MORE

Roger Waters, former member of Pink Floyd, has come up with an ideal solution to bringing his studio on the road for location recording and songwriting. With a little help from his co-producer Nick Griffith, Waters has assembled three identical compact recording rigs that are easily transported and assembled anywhere he is working.
