Molex SFP Ganged Cages
The SFP Ganged Cages from Molex Inc. are multiport cages geared for networking applications such as switches and routers, and storage and data communication devices including high-end servers. The cages are available in four versions: 1x2, 1x4, 1x5 and 1x6. Their rugged metal cage design is based on the small form factor multisource agreement (MSA), include a press-fit pin design, an elastomer 360-degree gasket and multiple ground-pin locations for EMI containment. Tube-Tech SSA 2A, MMC 1A
TC Electronic, Tube-Tech's North American distributor, announced the development of the new Tube-Tech SSA 2A stereo summing amplifier, which offers eight stereo inputs and one stereo output that are summed together with low-noise, low-distortion tube amplifiers. The company's new microphone preamplifier with multiband tube compressor, the MMC 1A, features a Lundahl transformer-equipped mic preamp with variable input impedance, 69 dB of gain, a high-impedance instrument input and a line-level input. The MMC 1A also includes a 3-band optical compressor with adjustable crossovers. MORE

AES New York Questions Place of High-Quality Audio
In May, the New York section of the Audio Engineering Society hosted a lively AudioCrossfire session to debate the question, "Does Quality Matter? Or Has the iPod Already Defeated the Listening Room?" Hosted by Allan Tucker, chairman of Audio Engineering Society (AES) N.Y., the topic was discussed by moderator Adam Sohmer and panelists David Baker, Chris Byrne, Kevin Clement, Elliot Fishkin and Elliot Mazer. Shure's new competition to the U.S. DJ battle circuit, Vinyl Kombat, will operate under a "Keep it Clean" premise (no profanity nor vulgarity) to offer a safe and positive environment in which competitors and audiences of all ages can participate. Grammy Trustees Add New Awards Categories
Resulting from its semi-annual Board of Trustees meeting, the Recording Academy has created two new Grammy Award categories: Production, Surround Sound and Best Surround Sound Album in all music genres. To be eligible for nomination, the commercial releases on DVD-Video, DVD-Audio or SACD must provide an original surround mix of four or more channels. The award will go to the surround remix engineer, surround producer (if any) and surround mastering engineer (if any). New categories also were added in existing fields: In the Dance field for Best Electronic/Dance Album, in Gospel for Best Gospel Performance (for singles or tracks with Gospel lyrics) and in Folk for Best Hawaiian Music Album.

The Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program (PNWFS) and Napier University (Edinburgh, Scotland) announced that course registration for their inaugural two-week film summer intensive led by Hollywood composer Hummie Mann is now open.
