      CAFO Rule Settlement Deal Draws Fire
    The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is expressing deep frustration and anger over the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) continuing efforts to develop potentially costly agricultural regulations that may provide few if any additional environmental benefits. At the end of May, EPA reached a settlement with several environmental groups on a lawsuit that challenges Clean Water Act permitting regulations for concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). NPPC is part of that ongoing litigation. More

      Managing Nitrogen on Dairy Farms

      Illinois Studying Herbicide Residue in Manure
    University of Illinois (UI) Extension educators are conducting a survey in order to evaluate herbicide use patterns among grass hay and straw producers. The research is specifically focusing on estimating how many tons of pyridine-treated hay and straw are used in Illinois. More

      Nutrient Management Research Explores Water Quality
    A project conducted by a team of researchers in Pennsylvania State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences is investigating whether feeding cattle low-protein diets might result in the animals more efficiently utilizing dietary nitrogen, which may in turn reduce ammonia emissions from dairy operations.
