***Give Props to
Propane***
|
Your lift truck fleet is probably very reliable. So reliable, in
fact, that it becomes easy to overlook basic things like daily
maintenance and safety considerations. When it comes to propane,
remembering safety is important. Fortunately the elements of propane
safety are easily conveyed and easily followed. You probably have all
the necessary propane handling practices integrated into your overall
safety program. Your lift truck operators know that propane is
flammable. It's flammability that makes propane useful. But it also
flags propane as a safety concern, and a periodic refresher about proper
handling is always a good idea. Keep in mind, though, this article is
not intended to replace or supersede bona-fide safety training (which
should be part of any facility's standard practices). Click here to

***Manufacturing in Synch with
Service***
|
The years when manufacturers could profitably establish long
production campaign runs and idealistic changeover cycles to drive
efficiency are long gone. Today they are being pressured from within to
produce more varied products at faster speeds and lower costs ― all
while improving resource utilization and reducing overall inventory
levels. At the same time, customers expect even higher service levels at
lower, more competitive prices that consequently erode margins. The best
strategy to deal with these pressures is to integrate manufacturing and
logistics functions. This will help them redefine rough-cut capacity
planning; shift to daily planning and execution; and schedule production
at the attribute level, including size, color and recipe. Click here for

***System Integration: A New
Understanding***
|
Many distribution center operations managers believe they have
integrated systems because they employ a menu of software packages to
manage the various manual, semi-automated or automated systems
throughout a facility. This menu can range from simple spreadsheets in
a low volume, manual environment to receive, store, pick and ship
inventory. Read more by clicking

***High-Lift Box/Container
Dumper***
BETHLEHEM, PA: A new TIP-TITE High-Lift Box/Container Dumper from
Flexicon discharges dust-free into vessels 6 to 10 ft (183 to 305 cm)
above the plant floor. The dumper allows boxes and other containers to
be loaded at floor level, sealed against a discharge hood, elevated and
tipped, mating the hood outlet to a gasketed inlet port fitted to any
receiving vessel. The unit accommodates Gaylords and other boxes from 36
in. to 48 in. (915 mm to 1220 mm) on a side and 39 in. to 44 in. (990 mm
to 1117 mm) overall height. The container platform is raised by a
single hydraulic cylinder, creating a dust-tight seal between the top
edge of the container and the underside of the discharge hood. A second
hydraulic cylinder raises the platform-hood assembly vertically, before
tipping it to a motion-dampened stop at 60 degrees beyond horizontal,
causing the vertically-oriented hood outlet to mate with the receiving
vessel's horizontally-oriented inlet port. A pneumatic or manual slide
gate valve prevents material flow until the discharge cone has been
properly seated, and allows discharging at controlled rates. ---Flexicon

***Mechanical Lift Table with Butcher Block
Top***
MENTOR, OH: Air Technical Industries has developed a new series of
mechanical scissor lift tables with a wooden butcher block top. The
tubular scissor design provides structural stability, safety, and is
lightweight for mobility. The wooden butcher block top is fastened to a
metal frame to prevent warping and provide ample support for the load.
The butcher block provides a soft touch and compatibility with lifting
many products. Lifting operation is offered with a choice between two
different mechanical systems. One is an acme screw-type lift and the
other is a cable winch-type lift with a worm gear drive that keeps the
load at any position desired without drifting. The manual crank handle
is conveniently located at working height and the crank handle has a
molded plastic grip for comfort and safety. Models are available with
capacities from 250 to 1,000 pounds, deck sizes from 24" x 36" up to 36"
x 96" and raised heights up to 87" when installed on wheels. ---Air
